Beste varkenskunstliefhebbers,
Eindelijk is het zo ver: de blog kan worden afgesloten met het blijde bericht, dat de uiteindelijke opzet van deze blog is geslaagd: het organiseren van een expositie rondom het varken !
In 2012 zal bij museum Mohlmann in Appingedam de expositie"Varken in vorm" plaatsvinden van 1 april tot en met 1 juli.
Er zullen zo'n 40 kunstenaars aan deelnemen , er verschijnt een boek met o.a bijdrages van Yvonne Kroonenberg, Bas Haring, enzovoorts.
Voor informatie hierover kunnen jullie ook de website www.museummohlmann.nl raadplegen.
Dit betekent ook, dat ik ben gestopt met bijdrages op deze blog te plaatsen, want alle energie gaat nu natuurlijk naar de expositie, die vast en zeker prachtig wordt.

I'm into art history and it seemed to me quite 'modern' and iconoclastic to draw a XIX-century woman's head with a pig body. A pig is a very metaphorical figure, and a very nice animal, too.

There is a farm nearby that raises Tamworth pigs organically, because they do very well in the cold weather here in Vermont. I took a lot of photos of them (after scratching their backs) and came back to my studio to paint them. I fell in love with pigs when I visited Denmark in 1962 and stayed with a family where the husband was a vet. He took me to some farms one day, where he was innoculating piglets, and that's when I lost my heart to them.

So I find myself in Seattle for the first time ever, and what do I find but a city literally wallowing in pig art! Who woulda figured that Seattle was the mecca of all things pig??? There are literally dozens of these things, all different. We found this one in a shopping mall near the Monorail - now even pigs have good cyberpunk!

"Varkentje Cinders" , 50 x 70 cm. olieverf op doek. 2011
Het schilderij toont een varkentje met smetvrees.Ik kwam op het idee door een berichtje in de krant.Het ging over een varkentje uit het dorpje Thirsk in Groot- Brittannië , genaamd Cinders.
Het durfde niet door de modder te lopen op de boerderij en had daarom laarsjes gekregen.
Ik vond het heel opvallend dat een varkentje niet met zijn pootjes in de modder wilde en vond dit een geweldige oplossing !
Bovendien vond ik het fijn om te bedenken is dat iemand (de boer denk ik) zo zorgzaam en creatief geweest is om dit te bedenken voor het varkentje.

Leonora Carrington ( 1917) is a Mexican painter, sculptor and writer of English birth. In 1936 she travelled to London, where she studied under Amédée Ozenfant and in 1937 met Max Ernst, with whom she became involved artistically and romantically, leading to her association with Surrealism. They moved to Paris together in 1937. At the outbreak of World War II, Ernst was interned as an enemy alien, and Carrington escaped to Spain, where she was admitted to a private clinic after having a nervous breakdown; she later recounted the experience in her book En bas (1943). After marrying the Mexican poet Renato Leduc in 1941 (a marriage of convenience), she spent time in New York before settling in Mexico in 1942, devoting herself to painting. There she and Remedios Varo developed an illusionistic Surrealism combining autobiographical and occult symbolism. Having divorced Leduc in 1942, in 1946 she married the Hungarian photographer Imre Weisz.

Mori Chack( 1973) is the artist name of a Japanese graphic designer, who was born in Sakai, Osaka, Japan. He is famous for his Chax product line, and especially the character Gloomy Bear,a 2 m tall, violent, pink bear that eats humans. The design is an antithesis to the excessively cute products produced by Disney, Sanrio's Hello Kitty, and other companies. Mori Chack believes that humans and animals are incompatible, and an animal is wild by nature. This is expressed most pronouncedly by the Gloomy Bear, which is often shown blood stained and attacking humans. Gloomy Bear is also available in different colors with slightly different designs.

Hij tekende en schilderde voornamelijk landschappen( poldergezichten) ,dorpjes en stillevens in de trant van de Haagse School.

Was tevens een uitstekend aquarellist.

"San Andresito was famous in Bogota for buying blackmarket goods especially electronics. Now that Colombia has an open economy and you can buy Harleys... the black market is not quite so popular. But you can still buy roasted pig while walking between the little stores. These pigs are roasted in ovens then delivered daily. A lechona is stuffed with rice and other vegetables and quite delicious".
