"Varken"

Hoe zal ik nou schrijven ,waarom ik dat varken geschilderd heb. Hij was schilderbaar.
In die tijd wilde ik wel meer varkens maken, in de buitenlucht ; gewone,ordinaire ,roze Nederlandse varkens, maar ik kwam ze te weinig tegen, toen is dat weer overgegaan.

Het boekje gaat over een hondje en een varkentje die verdwalen en weer heelhuids thuiskomen.

"Doe lutje routerd, hier op aan !

In vouerbak zit vrizze praan.

Doe deugennait, ik zuik mie dood.

Doe heurst in t hok en nait bie d'sloot ! "

Arthur Rackham ( 1867 - 1939) was een Engelse tekenaar, schilder en illustrator van boeken.

Alice was just beginning to think to herself, "Now, what am I to do with this creature when I get it home? " when it grunted again, so violently, that she looked down into its face in some alarm.This time there could be no mistake about it: it was neighter more nor less than a pig, and she felt that it would be quite absurd for her to carry it any further.

So she set the little creature down, and felt quite relieved to see it trot quietly into the wood. "If it had grown up ", she said to herself, "it would have been a dreadfully ugly child: but it makes rather a handsome pig, I think".

Michael Parkes

Michael Parkes (born in 1944 in Sikeston, Missouri) is an American-born artist living in Spain who is best known for work in the areas of fantasy art and magic realism. He specializes in painting, stone lithography and sculpture. Parkes' work is widely available in the form of self published mass production poster prints and nine published books.

Michael Parkes work has some similarities to the imaginative style of the 19th Century Belgian artist Felicien Rops (1833-1898).

J.G.Gerstenhauer

J.G.Gerstenhauer ( 1858-1931) Leerling van de Rijksakademie te Amsterdam en van J. A. Kruseman. Genre- en portretschilder, tevens tekenaar en litho-graaf. Werk van zijn hand is te vinden in Museum Boymans-van Beuningen in Rotterdam.
